The H.M.S. Fly was the fifth of the Swan Class of ship rigged sloop, of 25 vessels built from 1766 to 1780.
Fly, as with the entire Swan class was designed by Williams and her construction was ordered by the Admiralty on 1st August 1775 to be built at Sheerness Dockyard. The keel was laid in January 1776 and launched on 14th September 1776.
H.M.S. Fly was commissioned mainly for convoy escort duty and dispatch duty. She did capture a French privateer, Le Gleneur, off Portland after a long chase.
In 1800 she captured another French privateer, the Cutter Trompeur off La Hague.
Fly continued convoy duties until she foundered and was lost off Newfoundland during 1802.
The Swan class were unusually attractive for the class of vessel, with not only very sleek hull lines but also the unusual amount of decorations for the size of vessel.
The Swan Class measured 97' 7" on the gun deck and displaced 300 tons. They carried 125 officers and men and initially carried 14 guns (later 16) and 16 swivel guns.
The original plans of the Fly still exist, and on these plans the kit is drawn.

 | Amati Wooden Ship Kit - Mercury

The Russian 20 gun brig Mercury was laid down in Sevastopol on January 28, 1819. She was designed as a patrol ship to guard the Northern Caucasus coast. Built of Crimean oak, with a shallow draught and equipped with oars, the Mercury was launched on 7 May 1820 and broken up on November 9, 1857.
The Mercury fought in many important naval battles during her career; the most notable being when Mercury (commanded by lieutenant A. Kazarsky) and two other ships were sailing back home from the Anatolia coast and faced a large Turkish fleet. Due to light winds Mercury was not able to escape (she was not a rapid ship), while two other russian ships went ahead. Two turkish SHIPS OF THE LINE engaged Mercury into an apparently hopeless battle, which, however the Russian crew decided to make a bold stand. After few hours of heavy fighting, the much smaller and massively out matched (on paper) Russian brig, maneuvering both under sail and oars, had severely damaged the rigging of turkish ships (dismasting at least one of them) and thus forced them to retreat.
It is recorded that after the battle, a navigator of one the Turkish ships made a comment praising Mercury for her gallantry and strength, and the captain for his bravery;
"If in the great deeds of ancient or our times there are the feats of bravery, so this act put the others in the shade and the name of a hero should be wrote by the gold letter in the shrine of glory: the captain was Kazarsky, and the name of this brig was "Mercury""
Mercury is one of the most famous vessels of the Russian Navy, and Amati have researched this vessel as much as possible to make it as accurate and well detailed as it can be.
The Mercury kit includes laser cut wooden frames, keels and decks; double planking for the hull; metal fittings and brass photo-etched parts. Plans and instructions are included as well as a laser cut wooden stand.

HMS Pegasus was the sixth of 25 Swan Class ship rigged sloops ordered by the Admiralty between 1766 and 1780. Built at Sheerness Dockyard, Pegasus was launched on December 27th, 1776. A sister ship to HMS Fly, she was sleek-hulled and carried a wealth of carvings and decorations. Her armament consisted of 14 cannon and 16 swivel guns. After an operational career of less than a year, she foundered off the coast of Newfoundland on October 31, 1777.
Amati's kit is based on original plans still in existence. Plank-on-bulkhead construction uses laser cut wooden parts throughout. Original ornamentation is faithfully reproduced, and includes photo-etched brass sheets for window frames, deadeye strops, footrope stirrups, gunport scuttles, hinges and other fine detail. Brass cannon rest on wooden carriages. Copper hull plating is so accurate that there is a left and right side to every plate to avoid protruding nail heads. Kit also contains a flag set and sailcloth, should you wish to rig your model with main sails. Full sized plans and illustrated instructions take you through every stage of construction.

The first highways in America were the great rivers, which permitted the growth of commerce and transport. The advent of steam and a brilliant idea of Fulton and Livingston, first builders of riverboats, permitted the upstream navigation on rivers. The search for speed inspired marvellous competitions. One of the most famous races is that between Natchez and Robert E. Lee, held in 1870 between New Orleans and Saint Louis. After 750 miles of water the Robert E. Lee won the race, covering the distance in 3 days, 18 hours and 14 minutes.

This wonderful kit is the latest release in the highly acclaimed Victory Models series of high quality kits.
HMS Vanguard (or HMS Bellerophon or HMS Elephant). This 74 gun Ship Of The Line was Nelson's Flagship at the famous Battle Of The Nile on 1st/2nd August 1798.
Nelson's Vanguard was designed by Slade (of Victory fame) and was one of fourteen 3rd rate 74 gun ships which formed the Arrogant class. The ship was ordered on 9th December 1779 and the keel laid down at Deptford on 16th October 1782. During this time, Britain was not at war so her build went ahead very slowly, being launched on 6th March 1787.
The kit includes the following;
Laser cut wooden parts throughout. Many photo etched brass detail sheets that include window frames, deadeye strop/chainplate fittings, monograms and flintlock detail for the cannons, footrope stirrups and other fine mast and yard detail, gunport scuttles, hinges - the list is endless.
There are no less that twenty full size plans, which include very easy to follow rigging detail. Sail detail is also included, along with sail cloth if you wish to rig your model with main sails. (Not stunsails)
The copper plates for below the waterline are of a completely new design. They are so accurate that there is a left and right side to the plates, and there are no unseemly over protruding nail heads, everything is scaled at 1:72nd.
Accompanying the plans is a 31 page A3 size fully illustrated building manual, taking you through every stage of the critical hull construction.
